It's mid morning and I am perched on the comfy, pillowy bed of our little airbnb bungalow in Aptos, CA just south of Santa Cruz. The birds are singing and the sun is shining intensely through the cloud cover.
Greg and I are going to go for a walk on the beach.
It's officially mid Summer. Ingredients we've been working with this week:
Dahlias, Lisianthus, Allium (on their way out, sadly), Fluttery Hydrangea Varieties, Beautiful large leafed cotoneaster, Grasses that have gone to seed, Bright Green magnolia with tan undersides, Tall, wild thistle, Lillies (I LOVE THEM, want to use them more often), and soap flower.
Lillies + soapflower - that is a combo I'd like to explore this week. Real fairy flowers.
I remember summers in Suburban Pennsylvania. Most of my friends would move down to the beach for the summer (I wasn't so lucky), so I spent a lot of time alone. Days filled with reading, dreaming, wandering. As an adult those moments to waif around without being productive are a little harder to come by.
Happy Fourth of July Weekend! Hope you're able to sneak in a few lazy, exploratory indulgences.
